Turning Waste into Treasure: Transform Old Glass Bottles into Adorable Bear Vases!

After I switched to non-plastic containers, one problem I faced was accumulating more glass bottles than I knew what to do with. Instead of throwing them away, I decided to turn them into something new so I could reuse them. Following is how I made this bear-shaped mini vase using an old glass bottle – check out the video about the process: Turn Old Glass Bottles into Something Cute!

Upcycling Magic with Simple Materials

What you’ll need:

An old glass bottle (I used a small fish oil bottle)
Air-dry clay
Water-based paints
Paintbrushes

The Creative Process

I started by cleaning the glass bottle thoroughly and removing any labels. Then I rolled out the air-dry clay and began shaping it around the bottle to create the bear’s face and ears. The wonderful thing about air-dry clay is how forgiving it is – you can keep adjusting until you’re happy with the shape.

After letting the clay dry completely (which took about 24 hours), I painted the bear features using water-based paints. I chose a simple design with a cute face that makes me smile every time I look at it. The contrast between the smooth glass and the textured clay creates an interesting visual and tactile experience.

Sustainable Creativity

What I love most about this project is that it transforms what would have been waste into something functional and adorable. The small opening of the bottle is perfect for holding a few wildflowers or a single stem. I’ve placed mine on my desk where it brings a touch of handmade charm to my workspace.

This project has inspired me to look at other “trash” items differently. What else could be transformed with a little creativity and time?
